Don't Let the Exam-Season Become a Disaster...Here's my advice to...
Yesterday I had a great chat about happiness and understanding unhappiness with Pat March, the afternoon presenter on BBC radio Kent. Pat is one of those guys who’s incredibly easy to talk to and actually gives an interview guest time to give proper answers. Some radio presenters rush you through and just want teeny-tiny soundbites, assuming their listeners have the brains of ants.
Okay, so we've got friends coming over and I'm making a classic chilly (easy and can be made this morning and left to sit - in fact it tastes better when it's been sitting a few hours before it's reheated) - have loads of fresh chilies, garlic, onions, coriander, etc, etc. But for me it's getting the portions right that proves tricky. It often ends too garlicky or too hot and everybody's gasping for water. So, my challenge is to get the balance just right so everybody enjoys it.
Forgot to mention I got through a few books on holiday: if you want a charming little book about people and their relationships set around a theme music appreciation then check out Nick Hornby's Juliet, Naked. I do enjoy his style of writing (High Fidelity is an old favourite). I also enjoyed the Time Traveler's Wife that had been sitting on my desk for about a year. Must admit it took me a few passages to get into it, but once I was, I found it imaginative and hit some of the right emotional 'spots'. Also read Chris Cleave’s The Other Hand which is moving, sentimental and also jerks you into some horrible situations to do with ‘oil wars’ in Africa.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: one thing I love about a good book is when it carries me away from any worries and cares. There's nothing like getting stuck into a story that you like so much that you don't want it to end when it finally ends. So if you have any worries despite the sunshine why not pick up a good read and put those aside while you get stuck in.
Well it's into the kitchen for me so that I can torment our friends tonight with my cooking! Can just see, out of the window, both my cats - Leo and Tinker - lounging in the sunshine - oh, the life of a cat - no dinner party worries! Have a great weekend, Pam X
