So, first time on Woman's Hour on Radio 4 and things didn't really go to plan. We were discussing an interesting piece of research into why women cry-out, moan and groan during orgasm (think Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally) - often more to do with believing they should do so when a man reaches his climax then about their own pleasure.
I completely understood the evolutionary-biological basis (why we've evolved in certain ways when it comes to sex and coupling-off) for the research but didn't get a chance to discuss that as our chat took a quick turn.
Radio interviews often flow in a way you don't plan... part of the brilliance of radio. It was lovely to meet Jane Garvey in the flesh - incredibly friendly, down to earth and welcoming. Only sorry I fluffed some of the things I wanted to say.
On my weekly iVillage.co.uk blog I'm tackling the question a 29-year-old woman asked me about sex as a late starter...lost her virginity at 27 and so far things haven't been very satisfying - take a look if this resonates with you.
So completely disappointed that the Manic Street Preachers had to cancel last night’s gig at the Hard Rock Cafe was cancelled due to ill health. Was so looking forward to it after their fantastic album released a couple months ago. I gather Absolute Radio are rescheduling - fingers crossed.
TODAY’S THOUGHT: you know when you're looking forward to something and it doesn't come off - that sinking, disappointed feeling? I have different strategies for coping with disappointment. Usually I "process" it as psychologists say – rationalise why it couldn't be helped, understand what I might have done to change things (in this case nothing) and accept that things don't always go to plan.
But then I often look for a replacement - in this case a replacement activity. So the hubby and I got a yummy takeaway from our favourite Indian (had super-tasty ginger-curry lamb chops), lit the fire, then cuddled up in front of Any Human Heart from Channel 4 on Sunday… it's growing on me but I guess it can’t possibly be as good as the book.
Got a new music recommendation for you - if you like something a bit funky checkout Twin Shadow – lovin it!
Again keep safe in the big freeze, Pam X
