Boo hiss...I've come down with a cold that everyone I know has - and there I thought I was avoiding it!
It's Thursday so I've just posted a new "your e-mail of the week" - on my homepage select the Goldstar - it's from Becky who is in confusion and a bit of paranoia about a newish relationship. Haven't we all been there?? Get in touch and every Thursday I answer one e-mail - so sorry I can't answer everyone's.
Absolute tragedy about American journalist Marie Colvin killed reporting from Syria. I watched her reports before the Brits Tuesday night - they were heartbreaking reports about families who lost fathers and children in besieged city of Homs .
I'm not surprised if you're wondering why anyone would watch report from a war zone - not only are you endangering yourself but you see the true horrors of war firsthand. I've met a number of reporters and cameramen etc. over the years who have discussed what drives them to report from dangerous war zones. I have found this extraordinary drive of theirs falls into three factors –
1. a need for risk - and risk-taking is inherent to many of us
2. those who go into denial that anything will happen to them - they falsely believe they will be safe - and that's a defense mechanism against the horrors of the places they find themselves in
3. then there are those who simply believe they must do this job and they know the risks but feel capable of facing these risks.
I'm sure many of them have a complicated mix of these three factors. But it does make me stop and question about the little fears and anxieties I and everyone else suffers... how would we cope in the situations they find themselves in?
TODAY’S TIP: If you want to find more courage to face your own personal battles then you can start to do so today!
Take the thing that causes you most anxiety and break it down into why it causes this? Is it because someone has power over you - like a not very nice boss? Is it because you feel helpless to help someone you love who's struggling with someone?
Once you've truly defined what causes you the fear and anxiety start looking at one step at a time to change the state of affairs... it in your mind and you can have power over the way you think about issues and face them.
Take care, Pam x
